Since this year is a leap year, it is a longer than normal February.
We do get an extra day this year, but what day is the extra day? Is February 29 the extra day? Actually, the extra day is inserted between the 23rd and 24th and then the days are renumbered for the rest of the month. This all goes back to the origins of the Julian calendar.
I had thought about writing an entire post about the differences between the Julian and Gregorian calendars, but have decided that it can wait until a later date. Maybe in a post about how the changes affect Genealogy.
The calendar differences do not really have a big impact on our lives today. Most of us will have the same amount of leap years in our lives as if we were still under the Julian calendar.
Instead, I will mention a few things that I posted during this longer than normal February.
Early in the month I wrote a post about my Chinese New Year Dinner. It has definitely been a month to think about different calendar systems.
I didn’t travel anywhere this month. It was nice to be home for awhile, but I did share pictures from trips that I have taken in the past.
I wrote posts about my First Trip to India, visits to The Sea of Galilee and shared some pictures from Around Taipei.
I wrote posts about books or literature including one about the 2016 Newbery Books. Other posts were about Harper Lee, Even More First Lines, Books about Flying and The Shepherd of the Hills.
The most visited post this month was Remembering Uncle Junior. My uncle passed away earlier this month and I shared some of my memories of him.
Other family related posts were 3rd Great Grandparents and Old-Time Photography IX in which I shared pictures of family members.
I also wrote Meet the Presidents in honor of Washington’s Birthday and Lincoln Quotes in honor of Lincoln’s Birthday.
I also wrote posts about food, beautiful days, yard work and other topics but will let you discover them on your own.
Next month will be a busy month as I have a couple of trips planned. It is a good thing that I have one more day of this one to prepare 🙂
