Today was President Lincoln’s Birthday. For some people today was a holiday, but for most of us, we didn’t get a holiday for Lincoln’s Birthday.
Our local library is closed today for Lincoln’s Birthday and will be closed again next Monday for Washington’s Birthday. In a way I get next Monday off, as I will be sleeping half way around the world during work hours. It is a good thing I went to the library on Saturday to return books that are due while I am on the trip.
Most State offices like the East County Hall of Justice are closed today in observance of Lincoln’s Birthday.
The post office is open and mail will be delivered today, but not next Monday for Washington’s Birthday.
I did take some time today to look at some of my Lincoln books, and also some stamps. President Lincoln is on a lot of stamps.
Here is just a sampling of some of the Lincoln books that I have. I know that I have at least 40 books about Lincoln.
It is too early for my Mister Lincoln roses bush to have blooms, but it has started to grow new foliage. I did take a picture of a lady bug crawling on the almost bare canes. It will not be long until leaves will start to unfurl.
As I sit here writing this on my computer I just glanced down and looked at my Lincoln Marx Presidents figurine.
Washington and Lincoln have sat on top of my computer for quite some time, but I recently moved them to just below my screen as I have placed it on a stand. Most of the other Presidents in the Marx series are on a shelf in the living room. However, Jefferson has also joined Washington and Lincoln here on my desk.
How did you observe Lincoln’s Birthday?
