This weekend I am thinking about several things.
See my post Simpler Taxes? to learn more about the editorial cartoon shown here.
The tax deadline is of course coming up on Tuesday. Why not April 15 this year?
Because April 15 is on a Saturday. Therefore the date slips to Monday unless it is a holiday. Since Monday is a holiday the deadline is on Tuesday, April 18.
So what holiday is on Monday? It is Emancipation Day which is celebrated in the District of Columbia. Emancipation day is normally April 16 but since it falls on a weekend it is observed on April 17 this year.
Of course this makes me think of President Lincoln who is referred to as The Great Emancipator. Today is also the anniversary of the death of President Lincoln. See the post that I wrote yesterday: Now He Belongs to the Ages
Of course this week has lead up to Easter and on Sunday, as we do each week, we will be remembering the resurrection of Christ.
See the post I wrote earlier this week titled A Picture for Sunday to learn more about the tomb shown above.
Here is a picture of me lying in a first century tomb in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
You can read more about the tombs there by clicking on Holy Sepulcher Tombs.
One more thought as I bring this post to a close.
Last Sunday I wrote a post about The Place of a Skull showing how the features of Gordon’s Calvary have changed over the years.
Now to think about some sleep.
