Anne of Green Gables

One of my favorite Canadian authors is L. M. Montgomery. By far her most famous book is Anne of Green Gables, but there are seven more titles in the original series.

L. M. Montgomery - Anne of Green Gables - Canada - Anne Shirley - Prince Edward Island - Books

I have been looking at used book stores to find copies of the series that are all of the same style. It will make them look nicer on the shelf.

One of the things that I like about flying Air Canada is that they have a wide variety of choices in their entertainment system. One of the categories for movies is Screen Classics. While looking through the titles, I found the 1934 black and white version of Anne of Green Gables starring Anne Shirley. Wait, isn’t Shirley the surname of Anne in the book? Yes it is. The actress, Dawn O’Day, who played Anne changed her stage name after the filming of the movie. The movie also starred Helen Westley and O.P. Heggie as the Cuthberts. Both of them starred in numerous blockbuster movies of the era. This movie was absolutely wonderful. Especially the expressions of the characters at certain points in the movie. I liked the movie so well that I watched it on both the flight to and from Toronto.

Someday I would like to go to Prince Edward Island and experience the setting of the books. I have heard that it is one of the most beautiful places in Canada.

Now to pull the book off the shelf and read it again.

I LOVE the Anne of Green Gables series….I will have to say that I haven’t read the books although my dad has them all….but I love the movies! I have watched them so many times. I have dreamed of going to Canada myself to where the movie was filmed. It may remain a dream, but it would be the ultimate vacation!

Yes, you should go to Prince Edward Island. It’s lovely. The house is fun. And don’t forget to go across to Nova Scotia and indulge in some mile-high blueberry pie.

PEI is definitely on my bucket list. The blueberry pie sounds good and I would definitely visit Nova Scotia if I went.
