This evening I have been watching the second season of Anne with an “E” on Netflix.
Over the last few days I have received several e-mails and seen notifications on Facebook and Goodreads that the new season was being released on July 6.
L. M. Montgomery is one of my favorite authors and I have read the complete Anne series as well as other books that she has written.
Of course Anne of Green Gables is the first of the Anne series, but many people do not know that there are eight books in the series. There are also several other books of short stories about Avonlea.
Akin to Anne is a book of short stories about other orphans. In this new series there is a lot about orphans and how they were treated during that time. I will not go into detail here, but many orphans were treated like servants rather than members of the families they lived with.
The series draws not only from other writings of L. M. Montgomery but also uses material from Before Green Gables by Budge Wilson. It is interesting to see how they have integrated scenes from other writings into the story.
The outdoor scenery of the show is absolutely beautiful and it further draws me toward making a future visit to Prince Edward Island. Of course, I also want to visit the Maritime Provinces of Canada as that is where some of my ancestors lived. I just need to stop thinking about it and make some plans.
Now back to the show. I have watched six of the ten episodes. Whether I finish it before bed depends on how sleepy I get 🙂
Have you watched Anne with an “E”?
Steven
