Flora and Fauna XII – Roman Road

Tonight I am making another entry in a series that I started long ago. I had not made a post for about three years until I wrote Flora and Fauna XI – Ladybugs in May. Earlier today I remembered a series of pictures that I took in Turkey and just had to find one of them.

The post tonight is Flora and Fauna XII – Roman Road.

Roman Road - Tarsus Roman Road - Steps of Paul - Cilician RoadI use the picture above in my post A Day in Tarsus which I wrote when I visited there in May 2014.

Butterfly on Roman Road - Flora and Fauna - TurkeyWhile walking along the ancient Roman road I saw a lot of flora and fauna. Here is a combination of both as we see a butterfly on a pretty little flower. I used this picture in Flora and Fauna V – Turkey. This is a post you may want to visit as it has some really nice bee pictures. I think that they are some of the best that I have taken.

Red poppies, roman road, tarsus, flora and fauna, turkeyHere are some beautiful little red flowers that were growing along the ancient Roman road. I really like the shadow of the third flower. There were quite a few of these little flowers along the road.

Flora and fauna, roman road, tarsus, turkey, plantsI am not sure what type of plant this was, but it was growing through a hole in one of the stones along the road. I can imagine that plants have grown through this hole for centuries.

Black goats, Tarsus, Roman Road, TurkeyHere we have a flock of long-haired black goats that were grazing along the road. This area has been famous for black goats for millennia. The wool from this type of goats was often used in tent making.

Dung Beetles, Turkey, tarsus, roman road, dungNow for the picture that I had to find.

Have you ever seen dung beetles at work? This was interesting to watch as the beetles were rolling up balls of dung and moving them around. It was nice of the goats to leave them some food 🙂

You may like some of my other Flora and Fauna posts. Just type Flora and Fauna in the search box to find them.

A Visit to the City

Last month I made ‘A Visit to the City’. This phrase has a different destination depending on where you live. For me, this means San Francisco. If someone here says they are going to ‘the city’, that is usually what they mean. Growing up in Kansas going to ‘the city’ meant Dodge City. I am sure that many of you can identify with this phrase and have your own definition of ‘the city’.

Transamerica Pyramid, San Francisco, The CityYou can read about why I had to ‘Go to the City’ in my post Another Travel Tale. I actually had to go twice in one week. Once to drop something off and a couple days later to pick something up.

Above you see The Transamerica Pyramid which was until last year the tallest building in San Francisco.

Salesforce Tower, San Francisco, New Tallest Building, Iconic buildingsThe tallest building in San Francisco is now the Salesforce Tower. I like the look of the new tower, but there are some that think it is ugly and ruins the skyline. I follow a site on Facebook where people post pictures of San Francisco and whenever someone posts a picture of Salesforce tower there are usually many negative comments.

Coit Tower, San Francisco, The CityHere is the much shorter and older Coit Tower that was built in 1933. The art deco tower was built using reinforced concrete. In the foreground you see flags flying above Chinatown.

San Francisco China Town, Red lanternsHere is Chinatown at street level. I walked past a few interesting shops that I need to go back and visit someday. One of them is a really nice tea shop. I had just entered the shop when I got a phone call that the item I went to the city to pick up was ready. I explored the shop for a few more minutes, but really want to go back when I have more time.

San Francisco Cable Car, I guess a posting of San Francisco sights is not complete without a cable car, so here is one that was headed up a hill. I should have taken a cable car. I walked all the way up and it took a lot out of me. Luckily, the weather was nice.

Where do you go when you ‘go to the city’?
