Last month I made ‘A Visit to the City’. This phrase has a different destination depending on where you live. For me, this means San Francisco. If someone here says they are going to ‘the city’, that is usually what they mean. Growing up in Kansas going to ‘the city’ meant Dodge City. I am sure that many of you can identify with this phrase and have your own definition of ‘the city’.
You can read about why I had to ‘Go to the City’ in my post Another Travel Tale. I actually had to go twice in one week. Once to drop something off and a couple days later to pick something up.
Above you see The Transamerica Pyramid which was until last year the tallest building in San Francisco.
The tallest building in San Francisco is now the Salesforce Tower. I like the look of the new tower, but there are some that think it is ugly and ruins the skyline. I follow a site on Facebook where people post pictures of San Francisco and whenever someone posts a picture of Salesforce tower there are usually many negative comments.
Here is the much shorter and older Coit Tower that was built in 1933. The art deco tower was built using reinforced concrete. In the foreground you see flags flying above Chinatown.
Here is Chinatown at street level. I walked past a few interesting shops that I need to go back and visit someday. One of them is a really nice tea shop. I had just entered the shop when I got a phone call that the item I went to the city to pick up was ready. I explored the shop for a few more minutes, but really want to go back when I have more time.
I guess a posting of San Francisco sights is not complete without a cable car, so here is one that was headed up a hill. I should have taken a cable car. I walked all the way up and it took a lot out of me. Luckily, the weather was nice.
Where do you go when you ‘go to the city’?

Actually living in a medium-size city, when I think in “a visit to the city”, I always think in the old district. This is how we call this old medieval district in A Coruña, “la ciudad”. Here is a picture, so you can see what I mean.
