For the last month I have been trying to walk more. To help me along I have been relying on two different motivations.
One of these is my Walking and Listening through the Bible. In the first post as well as in Walking and Listening II I shared images of some of the Bible accounts I had been listening to.
Tonight I have been listening to Jeremiah and was thinking about the Temple Mount while listening to the descriptions given starting in Chapter 40. Of course these descriptions are not of Herod’s Temple.
Just three weeks ago I was listening to Job, so you can tell that I have done a lot of walking in the evenings to make it almost to the end of Jeremiah.
Listening while walking has made me walk a bit further at times as I have wanted to get to the end of a book, or through a certain amount of chapters. For instance, tomorrow I want to make it through the rest of Jeremiah and will walk longer if needed to finish.
The other motivation is my virtual hike. Last month I took a Virtual Hike to Yosemite and this month I am continuing on eastward.
I decided that Tonopah, Nevada would be my destination. It is a distance where I will need to walk about 5 miles a day to make it by the end of August. Also, Tonopah is considered to have some of the darkest skies in the USA. Although I will not be there in person it seems an appropriate destination as people think about astronomy this month.
One nice thing about the virtual hike is I can use Google Maps after each daily walk to see where I have ended up. Here you can see that I have been hiking up out of the Yosemite Valley. I have passed Half Dome and am currently by a place called Polly Dome.
I can also use Google Street View to see what it looks like where I am taking my virtual hike. It may not be possible all the time, but you would be amazed at how much is available.

Oh, I guess I could add a third motivation and that would be the scale. It hasn’t budged much, but I have probably been converting fat to muscle and the weight loss will come with time.
