This evening I drove by the 11th Street Bridge construction site so I could take a few pictures of how the replacement of the bridge is going. I was already going to the library to pick up a few books that I requested, so it was only a few block further.
You can see more pictures from the demolition stage in my post 11th Street Bridge.
The demolition took quite some time as they separated the concrete and rebar on site.
I really like this sunset picture. The shadows cast by the clouds are intriguing and the silhouettes of the cranes are an interesting contrast.
This view is one of the same views that I used in the 11th Street Bridge post.
You can see the approach wall with the temporary bridge rising up behind.
You will notice that the windshield of my car is very dirty. My first task once I got home tonight was to clean my windshield. I usually do not drive into the sun, but since I went past my house tonight I had to drive back facing into the setting sun.
Here is a look back to the east as I waited at the stop light to turn back toward the library. On the right you can see the temporary bridge. I am really looking forward to the new bridge as the temporary bridge is narrow and just seems a bit frail. I am sure that the structural engineers have done all the right calculations, but it still seems like it should be more substantial. Especially when a big truck goes over.
I hope they get a lot done before the rainy season hits this winter. I will be keeping an eye on the construction and may have more pictures to share in the future.
