The Case of the Missing Book – Solved

This weekend I finally solved The Case of the Missing Book. For the past couple of years I have been unable to find the first volume of my complete Sherlock Holmes.

I first looked for the book a couple years ago after watching several episodes of the BBC show Sherlock during a trip to Canada.

Sherlock Holmes - The Complete Sherlock Holmes - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - Sherlock TV SeriesI was able to find Volume II of Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Novels and Stories, but not Volume I.

I looked high and low and all over my house trying to find out where I had stashed the book away.

Sherlock Holmes - The Complete Sherlock Holmes - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - Sherlock TV SeriesI did find a copy of Volume I in hard back at the library book sale, but it was just not the same as having a matched set of books.

I even spent more time looking for the book and wrote a second blog post, The Case of the Missing Book II, when the third season of Sherlock was shown here in America.

Still no luck.

Sherlock Holmes, The Complete Novels and Stories, Volume 1, The Case of the Missing BookAs I mentioned at the start of the post, I found Volume I this weekend. I was searching for another book in my library. I moved a box of books and found that the missing volume had slipped down behind the box and had been hiding there for the past several years. I must have placed it on top of a stack of books when I returned from a trip. In the passing of time it must have been nudged of the top of the stack and fallen behind the box.

I really like the cover of this Bantam Classics edition of Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Novels and Stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Sherlock Holmes: The complete novels and Stories, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Volume 2Here are the two books together. They will look nice sitting on the shelf together like they should be.

Holmes, Sherlock, Complete Novels and Stories, Korean Book Store, Airport Book purchaseThe price tag on this volume was not as worn as the one on Volume II and I discovered that I had bought the set of books in Seoul, South Korea.

I now remember buying them while at the Incheon Airport with left over currency. Having left over currency at the airport is a good excuse for buying books 🙂 Of course planning to have left over currency is not beyond me, but then again who really needs an excuse to buy books?

I will hopefully read through the two books later this year to get ready for the fourth season of Sherlock which will air in 2017.

Have you read all of the Sherlock novels and stories?

Steven
