The Case of the Missing Book

After watching several episodes of Sherlock today, I decided that it was time to read the books again.

Sherlock Holmes - The Complete Sherlock Holmes - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - Sherlock TV Series

I have a two volume set: Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Novels and Stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Unfortunately, I cannot find the first volume. It should have been at least close to the second volume, but I vaguely remember taking on a trip with the intention of reading through the complete Sherlock again.

I have looked in all the places where the book should be, but it is eluding me. I have been replaying memories trying to figure out where I last saw the book and track it down. I am sure it is around here somewhere as I am not one to discard a book or leave one behind on a trip.

Last weekend while in Toronto I watched two episodes of Sherlock with my friends. That was enough for me to sign up for Netflix so that I could watch the rest of them. I still have one to go, but it can wait. I may even wait until later in the year so that I don’t have to wait as long to find out what happens next as the third season of three episodes is supposed to start on January 19, 2014 in the US.

Of course the Sherlock episodes have brought back memories of a long ago trip to England.

Baker Street Station - Sherlock Holmes - London, England - London Underground - Sherlock Holmes - 221B Baker Street

I dug back through my picture archive to find these pictures that I took with my first digital camera. Oh the memories of carrying around floppies to save pictures on.

This was my first trip to London and was made with my colleague Walt. We took a tour of London on a double-decker bus.

Sherlock Holmes - London, England - Sherlock Holmes - 221B Baker Street - Sherlock Holmes Statue

We didn’t stop at Baker Street, but I did manage to get this picture of the Sherlock Holmes statue.

At the time that I took this picture the statue was very new. The statue by John Doubleday was unveiled in September 1999 and this visit to London was made one year later.

Someday I would like to go back and visit the Sherlock Holmes museum.

Now to get back to the hunt for that missing book.

Maybe if you re-read the second volume, you can absorb some of Sherlock’s powers of deduction and find that first volume!

Have you watched any episodes of Elementary?

  2. Sheryl says:

I’ve read young people’s adaptations of Sherlock Holmes with my children, but I don’t think that I’ve ever read the actual novels and stories. I should read them sometime.

  4. I love these stories — they sparked my love of detective fiction. And isn’t “Sherlock” a blast? Zipped through the episodes available on Amazon Priime, and can’t wait for the new ones.in production!
