Since today is Lincoln’s Birthday I decided to share some Lincoln quotes. I will also share a few images of Abraham Lincoln that I have shared in other posts.
A lawyer once asked Mr. Lincoln if the county-seat of Logan County was named after him. Lincoln replied:
Well, it was named after I was.
Lincoln was once asked for a pass through the Union lines and on to Richmond. Lincoln replied:
I should be very happy to oblige you, if my passes were respected; but the fact is, within the past two years I have given passes to Richmond to two hundred and fifty thousand men, and not one has got there yet.
Character was like a tree, and reputation like its shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.
I should think a man’s legs ought to be long enough to reach from his body to the ground.
My mind is like a piece of steel — very hard to scratch anything on it, and almost impossible, after you get it there, to rub it out.
Even today there are questions about the immediate ancestry of President Lincoln. Here is what he thought about it at the time.
I don’t know who my grandfather was, and I am much more concerned to know what his grandson will be.
