On Sunday I was invited to an afternoon braai.
This may be an unfamiliar word to you, so I will explain that braai is Afrikaans for barbecue or grill. There is another compound word braaivleis that means grilled meat.
The preacher of the church I worship with when I am in Sydney is from South Africa, so I was invited over for a braai. There is also another family in the congregation who is from South Africa and they were also invited.
Here is the braaivleis as it is on the braai. You can see that it is going to be a great meal as there is a nice variety of meats.
We also had some nice cheesy garlic bread. This was really wonderful with the gooey cheese and the chunks of bread.
Now don’t think that we only ate meat and bread. There were also salads and some delicious potatoes. I really enjoyed the meal.
I also took some of the leftovers back to the apartment with me and enjoyed them on Monday night.
The picture did not come out well, but I had some rooibos tea after the meal. Technically rooibos is not a tea, but is from a bush that is called redbush. It is an herbal tea instead of a true tea.
Rooibos is also from South Africa, so fit in naturally with the braai.
For dessert I had a nice slice of custard pie. It was so delicious.
I really enjoyed the day, especially just spending time with friends while traveling. I have know the preacher and his wife for about 12 years now ever since my first trip to Australia.
