Saturday Wanderings IV

Tonight I decided to add to my Saturday Wanderings series.

This post is more about wandering in my mind than physically, so here goes.

Here are some of the thoughts that are wandering through my mind tonight.

St. Michael Church, Jena, Germany, Martin LutherToday was Halloween, but it is also Reformation Day. In my post last night I shared some pictures from a church building in Germany that has ties to Martin Luther and the Reformation movement.

As I wandered around town today and saw how people dressed for Halloween, I thought about how opposite Halloween is from Reformation Day.

city of palms - Jericho - Palm Trees - Judges - Ehud and EglonI have also been studying for my Sunday morning class on the Judges and have been deciding what images to use in my presentation. Some of the events in Judges 3 take place near the City of Palms, so the picture above came to mind. I used it in my post Judges 3 Judges.

KC Masterpiece, BBQ Sauce, Kansas City, Royals, Baseball, World SeriesI also watched the World Series tonight and am happy that the Kansas City Royals now have three of the four wins they need to take the title. They only need one more KC Masterpiece.

Seoul, South Korea - New and Old - Palaces and Skyscrapers - January in SeoulI also watched several episodes of a Korean Drama today and thought of this picture that I shared a couple years ago in my post Packing Again.

Large Rice Aisle - Large Bags of Rice - Canadian Grocery Store - Rice Selection - Bagged RiceI also bought a new rice cooker today which made me think of my post The Rice Aisle. I plan on figuring out how to use it very soon. It has multiple functions and can also be used as a steamer, so I will have some fun experimenting with it.

Now to finish my presentation for tomorrow so that I can take advantage of that extra hour of sleep. I hope that everyone remembers to set their clocks to the new time.

Reformation Day IV

Tomorrow is Reformation Day, so I thought that I would write another post in my series.

Martin Luther attached his list of issues to the door of the All Saints’ Church in Wittenberg, Germany 498 years ago on October 31, 1517.

St. Michael Church, Jena, Germany, Martin LutherThe church building shown here is not the one where Martin Luther posted his issues. However, this church building does have a connection to Martin Luther.

Luther Preached Here, St. Michael, Jena, GermanyMartin Luther preached in St. Michael’s church in Jena, Germany in 1524. He was also in Jena in March 1522 just after leaving his hiding place at the Wartburg. See Reformation Day III.

Jena, Germany, St. Michael's, Martin LutherIn this picture you can see the interior of St. Michael’s Church. On the left in this picture you can see the pulpit where Luther would have stood while preaching.

Pulpit Stairs, St. Michael's Church, Jena, Germany, Martin LutherHere is a closer look at the stairs leading up to the pulpit. I was so tempted to climb the stairs and stand where Martin Luther would have stood while preaching.

Martin Luther, Original Grave Plate of Martin Luther, St. Michael's, Jena, GermanyWhile standing by the pulpit I took a picture of a grave plate that was hanging on the opposite wall of the church building.

Martin Luther, Grave Plate, Jena, Germany, St. Michael's Church, Reformation MovementThis is the original grave plate for Martin Luther. However, Martin Luther is not buried in St. Michael’s. There is an interesting story as to why the grave plate is  in Jena. You can visit my post Reformation Day II to learn more about why the original grave plate is hanging in St. Michael’s.

You can also visit my post Notable Jena Gravestones to see a close up picture of the Martin Luther grave plate.

Someday I would like to visit Wittenberg, Germany and see the actual grave stone of Martin Luther.
