My flowers are fading away sooner than normal this year. The combination of hot days and less watering due to drought, but I have always thought that fading flowers have their own beauty.
Several week ago my agapanthus still had quite a bit of color even though many of the blooms were drooping. However, the drooping blooms are mainly due to problems I had with one of my trees. See: Back to Yardwork
Here is the agapanthus from late last week. You can see that most of the flowers on the blooms have dried up. You can also see some seed pods, but there are very few compared to last year. The drought has been hard on my agapanthus this year.
I keep my Mr. Lincoln rose bush well watered as it is new this year. I use water that I collect in the bathroom while waiting for hot water to fill the pipes. See: Water Saving Tips
Even so, the blooms start to wilt on a hot day. Today the temps were well above 100 degrees.
The blooms don’t last very long and the petals are soon drying out or falling off.
One thing I have noticed about my Mr. Lincoln rose is that there is a very short life cycle for a bloom. See: The Life of a Rose Bloom
Here is a bloom from my St. Patrick rose bush. The blooms last longer, but they are also very prone to drying out and looking like parchment.

Thankfully the temperatures will be on the way back down after tomorrow. I am looking forward to weather that is a bit cooler.
