Baseball Memories

After a long week of work I have been relaxing tonight by watching some baseball.

Baseball - Oakland A's - Baseball Stadium - Summer Pasttime - America's Favorite SportI am not at this stadium, but am watching a game that is taking place there. The A’s are playing a great game tonight and lead in the late innings.

I took the picture above during a game I went to a couple of years ago.

Little League Baseball - Ceramic - Baseball Uniform - State Farm Insurance - Birthday GiftThis picture brings back some great baseball memories. When I was ten years old I played Little League Baseball. I was not very good, but enjoyed playing on what was known as a farm team. We were the Royals, which is still the team of my heart today.

I still have the ceramic ballplayer which was a birthday gift from my Aunt Edie. It sits on the shelf in my library and always brings back good memories.

As you can see in the picture, our team was sponsored by State Farm Insurance. Can you guess what insurance company I use today?

Baseball - Little League Baseball - Bench Warmer - Baseball Dugout - Baseball MemoriesSo what position did I play in Little League Baseball? This picture illustrates my most common position. I was the bench warmer. I was lucky if I would get into the games in the late innings and would most often play in left field. Sometimes I would be loaned to a team that needed a player. Then I got to play the whole game.

When we moved to a small town in Kansas the next summer, I was able to play baseball with the town team and had a lot of fun traveling to different towns to play games. I also spent a lot of time warming the bench and would play in the outfield when I did get into the game.

Playing Baseball - Sports at Bible Camp -Bible Camp in Iowa - Kamp Keoma - Old Time Bible Camp - batter UpI had a lot more fun playing softball at Summer Camp. The picture above is from when my Mom would go to Summer Camp, but it was really the same when I went a generation later. Softball was much easier for me and we always played with boys and girls of all ages. It was also much easier to hit the big slow ball.

I have other baseball memories, including being on the payroll of the Kansas City Royals, but they will have to wait for future posts.

You may also enjoy another post I wrote about baseball: The Perfect Game

Today I like to watch or listen to baseball and also follow the stats. I like to follow the numbers and see records get broken.

What is your favorite baseball team?

Steven

  16. My favorite team is the New York Yankees! Of course, I grew up in the Mantle/Maris era! And growing up in Iowa, there were no Major League teams in our state! Thinking about the fact you weren’t born when the perfect team was pitched, you are younger than I thought you were.
