Today I have been thinking about my Grandpa. He was born 101 years ago today.
Last year I wrote a post about him on what would have been his 100th birthday. You can see the post at: Remembering Grandpa
Tonight I will share three more pictures of him that mean a lot to me.
I will start with the oldest of the three. This is a picture of my Grandpa with his two younger brothers. He was the oldest in his family.
I have some great memories of his younger brother who is on the left. We would often visit him. The middle brother, both in age and in the picture, passed away a few years before I was born.
As I write this I think of how I am in the third straight generation of three brothers. Like my Grandpa, I am the oldest of three brothers.
This picture also brings back a lot of memories. Here my Grandpa is harvesting plants or flowers in a field at Interstate Nurseries near Hamburg, Iowa.
For many years my Grandpa worked for the nursery. I have great memories of the many plants that he would bring to us when he would visit. I especially remember when he brought me a set of trees that I planted when I was in high school.
I just thought that I should check on them and see how big they are. I can see them on Google Maps. When I left home they were only a couple years old and not very big. They are very large now.
This last picture brings back some great memories. This is probably the last picture that was taken of him. I really like his white beard and he looks very happy in this picture.
In my memories, my Grandpa always had a beard. It is very interesting to see pictures of him when he was younger when he didn’t have a beard.
For pictures of several generations of beards click on the following link to visit a post I wrote earlier this year: Irish Heritage
Many other memories of my Grandpa are wandering through my thoughts this evening, but I will save them for future posts.
Steven

How sweet! A swell tribute. Good on you! 🙂 Happy Holidays! Uncle Tree
You’ve got some great old photo’s Steven. I think people used to dress so smart. Or maybe they only took photo’s on special occasions when they all got together? Have you ever seen that thing on line where it’s 30 school book photo’s of a science teacher (I think) who wears the same sweater every year for the year book? You get to see him age from a young guy to retirement. His glasses change, his hair changes, his physic changes but the sweater is the constant. It’s very cool, I’ll look for it to share.
Happy 101 + 1 day Grandpa 😀
Here you go. It was Dale Irby a Gym teacher and it was 40 years (OMGosh)

The students would definitely know when picture day was unless he actually wore the same style everyday 🙂
Such handsome young men. And in the photo of him in the white beard–priceless, what a cutie.

I remember one year at Christmas time my niece ( about 3 yrs old at the time) went to the free movie in Hamburg and stopped to visit Santa on the way out. Your grandpa of course. Afterwards we went to Nebraska City and walking down the street your grandpa passed us, My little niece stopped, pulled on her Mom and said, Momma, that man has on the same boots as Santa Clause!!
