At home in California we have been seeing signs of spring for almost two months now. However, here in Seoul spring is way behind. In the south part of the Korean peninsula the Cherry blossoms are blooming, but here in Seoul they are just starting to see signs of spring.
I thought I would share a few pictures from this weekend that show that spring is on the way.
This first picture shows the pretty yellow blossoms of a sansuyu (산수유) tree. This tree is a type of Dogwood tree, but is also know as the Cornelian Cherry. I guess maybe I have been seeing Cherry blossoms :-).
The structure behind the blossoms is one of the smoke stacks of a palace heating system at Deoksugung Palace.
Here is another view of the pretty yellow blossoms at Gyeongbokgung Palace. The yellow of the blossoms contrasts well with the primary colors of the palace structure. You also see a nice view of Mount Bugaksan in the background.
I really like this picture of the Hyangwonjeong pavilion with the yellow blossoms in front of it. It adds some color to the otherwise bleak winter view of the pavilion. You can see another picture of the pavilion in my post about Gyeongbokgung Palace.
I will leave you with one final picture that really shows that spring is on the way.
Even though you can tell it is cold by the way the gardeners are dressed, flowers were being planted all over the place in downtown Seoul this weekend. The city will soon be full of spring color.
I hope that spring has shown itself where you live, and if not that it will start to show signs of arriving very soon.
Steven

Gorgeous beauty! Thanks for sharing.
Seoul looks lovely. I’ve added it the my list of places that I hope to visit someday.
Great photo’s Steven, the yellow really makes me think spring even though our weather man said the ‘S’ word tonight….urg. Their spring looks very appealing, at least they have green trees.
