Walking Between Showers

The past couple weeks has been very wet and it is difficult to find times when I can go walk and meet my movement goal for the day.

walking, showers, rain, rainbow, clouds, exerciseI have had to watch the weather, especially the radar images, to see when there will be breaks in the rain.

Here is an example from last week. You can see the dark clouds in the distance.

I made it back home before the rain started to fall.

Tonight it is a different story, I am watching for gaps in the rain but I don’t think they will come. I am getting ready to bundle up in some wet weather gear and go out and walk for 15-20 minutes to meet my daily movement goal.

Should I build on my 53 day streak or should I just stay inside and keep dry? I should have just walked earlier in the day.

Virtual Hike to Chestertown, NY

The next destination on my Virtual Hike was Chestertown, NY.

The virtual hike from Fort Ticonderoga to Chestertown was through the Adirondack Mountains. The route also skirted around the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness Area. Part of the route was along the valley where Interstate 87 runs through the mountains. Of course, the virtual hike was not on the Interstate as pedestrians are prohibited.

The lake was beautiful, but was not visible for most of the time as there were trees between the highway and the lake.virtual hike, chestertown NY, adirondack mountains, lake schroon, wildernessThe virtual hike finally made it to Chestertown which is a town of less than 1,000 people. The settlement was originally called Chestertown Four Corners, and this is where the four corners were.

There was not particular reason for choosing Chestertown other than it was about the right distance from the last destination. The next destination is a historic site that does have a family connection.

I have been setting shorter distances between destinations for better motivation for my daily walking and so far it has been working. I have been walking more each day and have made good progress on my Virtual Hike. I am still a few stops behind on my posts.

Now that I am in New York I am heading south down through, or near, the Hudson River Valley. I have some interesting stops planned along the way including several with family connections.
