Lincoln’s Birthday III

Today has been Lincoln’s Birthday, but unfortunately it was not a day off of work.

Presidents Washington and Lincoln - Presidents' Day - Marx Presidential FigurinesHowever, it did not stop me from remembering one of my favorite presidents. I was looking to see if I had a picture of just the Lincoln Marx Figure, but couldn’t find one. I need to take one 🙂

I used this picture in my post President’s, Presidents’ or Presidents which is about what is the correct way to refer to the holiday next Monday.

Abraham Lincoln, Books, Lincoln's Birthday, Reading ListTonight when I got home I decided to dig through a few of my stacks and find some of the books that I have about President Lincoln. This is just a portion of the books that I have about him.

I will list the ones shown here:

  • Lincoln: A Novel by Gore Vidal
  • Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin
  • Abe Lincoln Gets His Chance by Frances Cavanah
  • Lincoln at Peoria: The Turning Point by Lewis E. Lehrman
  • Abraham Lincoln by George McGovern
  • Abraham Lincoln: The Boy and the Man by James Morgan
  • Lincoln at Gettysburg: The Words that Made America by Garry Wills
  • Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination that Changed America Forever by Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard
  • Abraham Lincoln: The Prairie Years by Carl Sandburg

Also shown is Gettysburg by MacKinlay Kantor. I had not planned on it being in the picture but I had picked it up while looking for the Lincoln books and I didn’t notice that I had included it. The book is about the Civil War battle and not the speech.

Lincoln Books, Lincoln's Birthday, Bill O'Reilly, George McGovern, President Lincoln, Gettysburg, Gore VidalHere is a view of most of the covers. They include some of the best known pictures of President Lincoln.

President Lincoln reading to Tad, Tad Lincoln, Reading Bible, President LincolnSince I have posted about books and President Lincoln. Here is a picture of him reading to his son.

Robert T. Lincoln, Giant in the Shadows, Biography, LIncolnI also have a book about Robert Todd Lincoln. Giant in the Shadows: The Life of Robert T. Lincoln by Jason Emerson is a well researched book about the only son of President Lincoln that lived past the age of 18. He is definitely overshadowed by his father and I look forward to reading this book someday. It is near the top of my to-read list. However, my to-read list is ever shifting so who knows when I will get to it 🙂

Did you take time to remember this great president today?

Steven

Remembering Tarragon

You may remember some of the posts that I have made about my little friend Tarragon. See: Tarragon the Cat

Cat - Barn Cat - Feline - Tarragon - Pretty CatSince I travel so much I am unable to have pets of my own. However, I have a few friends with pets and always enjoy spending time with them. Tarragon has been my favorite for quite some time as I spend a lot of time at the orchard where he lived.

Tarrago the Cat, Orchard, Orchard in Winter, Nesting BoxTarragon would follow me around when I would go for a walk through the orchard. See: A Walk with Tarragon

This picture is from three years ago. The trees are now much larger.

Tarragon, Cat, Barn Cat, Afternoon WalkTarragon was about 15 years old at the time I took this picture and still got around pretty good. For the past year he really slowed down and spent a lot of time resting in the sun or shade depending on the time of year.

Cat - Feline - Cat Eyes - Tarragon the Cat - KittyToday was a sad day as I helped my friend David lay Tarragon to rest as he had died in his sleep yesterday.

Tarragon, Resting place, pet burial, Barn Cat, Grove of treesWe buried Tarragon among a grove of trees. It is a nice quiet place for a final resting place.

I am glad that I have many good memories of Tarragon. He was such a nice friendly cat and I will really miss him.
