Monday Memory Chain

It is Monday and I was thinking about what to write about and couldn’t come up with a topic.

Instead I will share a Monday Memory Chain.

Service Apartment, North Ryde, NSW, MeritonI had an on-line meeting with colleagues from Australia earlier today and thought about the serviced apartment where I stayed during my last trip there. I am also remembering a scheduled trip to Australia that was cancelled by the start of the pandemic. I was looking forward to staying in an apartment there again.

Laughing Kookabura - Dacelo novaeguineae - Giant Kingfisher - Kookaburra Tail FeathersThinking of Australia brought back memories of a Kookaburra I took a picture of during a trip to Australia.

Canteen Lunch in the Alley, Ottumwa, Iowa, 1936, Loose Meat SandwichesOn a trip to Australia I also saw a news story one night on TV about one of my hometowns: Ottumwa, Iowa

This made me think of the Canteen in the Alley. I have some good memories of this little restaurant.

Flag Pole in Intersection - Hamburg, IowaI was reading a book the past week that mentioned the Canteen in the Alley, the same book also had quite a few mentions of Hamburg, Iowa and I was thinking of this flagpole that is in the middle of a downtown intersection there.

Stoner Drug - Hamburg, Iowa - Soda FountainThis made me think of Stoner Drug, which is just down Main Street from the intersection with the flag pole. What a great name for a drug store. Of course, it was the family name of the founder of the store and not a play on drug use.

Some nice Monday Memories.

Steven
