The next destination on my Virtual Hike was Lake Placid, New York.
The previous destination on my virtual hike was the Wilder Homestead near Malone, NY.
The virtual hike from Malone to Lake Placid first went through some farm country and then headed out into the wilderness areas of northern New York.
I found this nice barn near Malone on Google Maps Street View. It made me think of Farmer Boy.
Most of the route was not on Street View as it mostly followed trails like the Bloomingdale Bog Hiking Trail.
Here is the same area shown in the map above. You can see the trail meeting the highway.
There were also a large number of lakes in the area.
Lake Placid is probably best know for the 1980 Winter Olympics. That is what I thought about when I was looking for stopping points on the Virtual Hike.
While looking for an image from Lake Placid that would represent the Winter Olympics, I found that less than a quarter mile from this ski jump is a historical site. The John Brown farm and burial place is located there.
I have been setting shorter distances between destinations for better motivation for my daily walking and so far it has been working. I have been walking more each day and have made good progress on my Virtual Hike. I am still a few stops behind on my posts.
Now that I am in New York I am heading south down through or near the Hudson River Valley. I have some interesting stops planned along the way. The next stop takes me back close to the Vermont border to a well known historic place.
