The next destination on my Virtual Hike was Dannemora, New York.
The previous destination on my virtual hike was Milton, Vermont.
The virtual hike from Milton to Dannemora first crossed over a series of small islands and bridges to the Champlain Islands and then across Lake Champlain to New York on a ferry.
There were some great views, like this barn, while virtual hiking through the rural areas.
Here is the approach to the ferry that crosses into New York. As part of my Virtual Hike guidelines I can take ferries to cross rivers or lakes. If not, I would not be able to go some places as some bridges do not allow pedestrians, or I would have to go a long way out of the way to find a bridge. In this case I would have to go north almost to the Canadian border or south almost a hundred miles to cross the water below the lake.
I finally made it to Dannemora, New York. I did not know when I chose the destination that Dannemora was prison town. It is the home of the Clinton Correctional Facility, which is a maximum security prison. It just happened to be on the way to the next destination.
I have been setting shorter distances between destinations for better motivation for my daily walking and so far it has been working. I have been walking more each day and have made good progress on my Virtual Hike. I am still a few stops behind on my posts.
Now that I am in New York my next stop will have a literary connection, and then I will head south down through the Hudson River Valley. I have some interesting stops planned along the way.
