During my time at home I have started to play my piano a little more.
However, I soon realized that I needed to fix a sticky key. As long as I had been playing 1/4 notes there was no problem, but 1/8 and 1/16 notes were a little difficult.
I had to clean off the top of the piano and then open it up. I could then see the hammers and strings.
Next was the front cover and I could see most of the internal workings.
Almost there as after I took off the keyboard cover I had one more piece to take off. This was the only one that required a tool. Luckily I had the right size screwdriver.
I was finally able to take out the offending ‘A’ key. I did a little bit of trimming and then it moved smoothly and resets without any problem. Hopefully this time it will keep working smoothly. I have had to make adjustments before. If it happens again I may see if I can order a new key from the manufacturer. However, the engineer in me will probably just try and adjust it a bit more 🙂
It has been nice to play again, even though I am just playing some very basic pieces. The ability to play is slowly coming back along with memories of taking music lessons in the old Harper Mansion in Ottumwa, Iowa. I have heard my piano teacher play for a few on-line memorial services earlier this year. Good memories, and partly why I have thought of playing again.
Did you take piano lessons when you were young?
Steven
Glad you stuck with the problem to get thru it. As a pianist, I have had to use the good ones till it was repaired
