Today I passed a milestone on my blog.
The views of my blog have slowed down in the past year, but this is most likely due to changes in search engine algorithms. Posts that used to have consistent views no longer show up near the top in search results.
It is OK with me, my blog is a mainly just a creative outlet. However, I still like to look at the stats 🙂
It is also interesting for me to see where the readers of my blog come from. I have had visitors from most areas of the world. The latest count is 211 different locations. Not all of these locations are countries. One example is that the European Union shows up as a location. Also, territories like Puerto Rico are listed in the stats.
You can see in the map above that there are only a few areas around the world where I have not had visits from.
It is easy to see that there are several African countries which I have not had visits from. However, just this month I received my first visits from the Central African Republic.
It is a little hard to see but I have not received views from North Korea. Perhaps some day they will relax their internet policies and someone from there will find my blog.
I have been blogging now for just over eight years. The first true blog post was on June 2, 2012. I wrote this first post while waiting to board a flight to Toronto. There is actually an earlier Welcome post that is date May 5, 2012 but it was the default first post when I signed up for the blog.
In the 8 years of the blog I have made 2,922 posts covering a wide range of topics.
The most popular post that I have written is Walls of Jericho which has received more than 15,000 views. With search engine changes I no longer get many views on this post.
The most popular post in the last year is one that I wrote about Camel Knees. One of the pictures from the post is used, with permission, by an online testing service. Whenever the image is used in a test the link is included, so I get some visits from people taking the test.
Most of my top posts are educational, which makes me feel good since I am an educator.
It will be interesting to see how long it takes me to get to one million views. I reached the 250K milestone in just over four years and that was just under four years ago.
Check back in the summer of 2028 and see if I am at a million views 🙂
