Tonight I am a bit tired so will just share a few images from the airports I flew from this week.
Here it looks like everyone is MIA in this picture. Unfortunately my flight was an hour late arriving at Miami International Airport (MIA) and since it was after Midnight the pickup area for the shuttle buses was pretty quiet. I was not too happy that I had to stand out here for almost an hour waiting for the hotel shuttle. Especially since it was still hot and humid.
I took a picture of the construction on the new Concourse E Connector for Terminal 3 at SFO. It was interesting to see the different dust suppression systems they were using. It looks like it had been raining, but it is just the water used to limit dust.
I flew back from Miami on American Airlines, so had a good view of the new Airport Tower that is under construction at the San Francisco Airport. The tower has topped out and they are now getting ready to install the cladding. I am looking forward to seeing how this will look when it is complete.
I had plenty of time to observe the new tower as I waited a long time for the hotel shuttle so I could go pick up my car. I did not have the best of luck with shuttles on this trip.
The new tower is 221 feet tall and the control room is almost 200 feet above ground level. The Air Traffic Controllers should have a great view of the entire airport at they guide aircraft to and from the gates and runways.
When we landed back at SFO, I looked out the window of the plane and saw Air Force One sitting on the tarmac across from the terminals. I pointed it out to the young Canadian who was sitting next to me and she thought it was pretty cool.
I had other thoughts. What was President Obama doing in the Bay Area? I did not know of any big event that he might be taking part in. Had something happened that I hadn’t heard about?
I decided to google what our President was up to and found that he was here on a fund raising trip. He spent the night in San Francisco and then attended a couple of fund raisers, before heading on to LA for more of the same. Perhaps that is why traffic was a mess around the airport.
It was cool to see Air Force One though. I have seen it several times in the past, but not lately.
Have you seen Air Force One?
Steven
Oh that’s cool. It would have been pretty awesome to see his motorcade zoom in hey? That tower will probably be a scary place in an earthquake….eeek that’s high up.
No, I haven’t, but have met Bill Clinton.
