For those of you who know where I live, you will know that a July rainbow is a rarity.

We have had uncharacteristic weather the last week or so with many clouds in the sky. I have also heard that other areas of the country are having unusually cool weather. There must be an unusual summer weather pattern going on.

Earlier in the day I had seen rain falling in the distance, so knew that there was a lot of moisture in the clouds. I had just finished mowing my back yard and had put the mower away when I spotted this sight from my garage. I had to get my camera.

I didn’t notice that it was a double rainbow when I was taking the pictures. I only noticed it when I downloaded the pictures to my computer. The secondary rainbow is not very bright, but it is there.

I really like the way that the clouds just above the rainbow are lit up from the setting sun.

Unfortunately, it didn’t rain at my house. It would have been nice if it would have. We did not have much rain over the winter in California and in some areas we have water restrictions because of drought conditions. It would have been nice to have a nice soaking rain instead of isolated light showers.

Summer rain is one thing that I definitely miss in California.
