Tonight I have been leafing through the pages of my Grandma’s scrapbooks looking for images to use later this month for Thanksgiving.
I found some great images and articles along with two other little gems that I want to share this evening.
Here is a nice line drawing of the new Hamburg, Iowa Fire Station that was built in 1959. Hamburg Hose Team No. 1 was incorporated in 1891. They bought their first fire hose cart and fire bell in 1892.
The article with the drawing gives additional history of the fire department, but I will save it for a future post someday.
The second gem is an architectural drawing of the Hamburg High School Building. This is where my Dad went to High School along with his two brothers and sister.
I really like the multi-story building. So many schools today are single story and are sprawled all over the place.
The drawing is from 1957 when the building was expanded. The new addition added new classrooms for the junior high and also a new lunch room and kitchen.
This picture also brings back memories for me. I remember going there once with my Grandma to play bingo. I also remember driving by it many times through the years.
I need to find a good picture of my high school to post someday. I am sure that I have one around somewhere.
