On my way home from Bible study tonight I had been composing a post in my head. After a quick stop at the grocery store my plans for a post tonight went in a totally different direction. Too bad for the post that I was composing. Perhaps it will surface again 😉
I walked into the grocery store and the bread section had an entirely new look.
There was a whole new selections of bread sandwiched between SaraLee and Rainbo. Nature’s Own has finally made it to Northern California!
I now have four new breads to try out as replacements for Home Pride Bread. I decided that I would start with Nature’s Own Honey Wheat.
I have heard that the Honey Wheat is a good alternative to Home Pride Wheat, so I am eager to give it a try in the morning. It is too late tonight, or is it? Maybe I need a late night snack.
My next test will probably be Nature’s Own Butter Top. When I was at the store I didn’t realize that it said Butter Top. My brain registered it as Butterbread, which I tried when I was back in the Midwest last month. Butter Top is intriguing as maybe it will be the one that is closest to Home Pride Wheat. I will be patient and test what I bought tonight first.
Thinking about bread names, I am wondering whether Flowers Foods will maintain Home Pride as a separate brand or whether they will integrate it into their flagship Nature’s Own line. Will it be Nature’s Own Home Pride Wheat?
Last week we found out that Flowers Foods had received Regulatory Approval for the purchase of the Hostess bread brands. I am looking forward to finding out how they plan on reintroducing the breads to the market. I hope that we find out soon. At least I now know that I live in Flowers Foods direct distribution region and can hope that they will distribute it here very soon after it is relaunched.
The comeback of Twinkies this weekend generated a lot of visits to my blog on Monday. A new record for daily visits was set as the daily counter passed the 1,000 mark for the first time. I looked at the search terms that brought people to my site and expected to see a lot of people searching for Twinkies. Instead, the search terms were mostly some variation of ‘Is Home Pride Returning.’ I think that many people were wondering why Home Pride was not back on the shelves since it was a Hostess product.
Remember, Hostess was broken up into several parts. You can follow the history of the process by reading back through my posts about Home Pride Bread and other related topics.

Happy eating!
Nature’s Own is taking lots if shelf space So Let me know how you like the bread. The bigger stores will sometimes charge “slotting fees” to new products sometimes in the $millions in the more competitive isles. Hopefully HomePride will return, it is my farther in law’s favorite…
Roger, I am sure that they are paying a lot for the placement. They just expanded into Northern California and are trying to pick up market share.
My daughter looked for Twinkies at Wal-Mart tonight. Not there yet 😦
