Barns

Tonight I am thinking about barns, so thought I would share a few pictures that I have taken of barns. I like barns as they bring back a lot of good memories. I have also thought about barns a lot this year as I have a barn calendar hanging above my computer.

Since my formulaic post usually has three pictures, I decided to choose three for this one. I have more, so you may see some other barn posts in the future πŸ™‚

Old Barn - Tracy, California - Barns - Wooden Barn - California Central Valley

This barn is just north of town. It is a bit out of the way, which is nice as I was able to stop and get a picture earlier this year. The barn has definitely seen better days as you can see that a lot of the shingles on the roof are missing.

Old Barn - Patterson, California - California Central Valley - Orchard - Old Wooden Barn - Red Barn

I really like this barn that belongs to friends who live near Patterson. The barn is in great condition and is really beautiful. I have taken quite a few pictures of this barn and will probably take many more in the future. I really like the roof lines on the end of the barn. Especially since I know why the shape is like it is. Do you know?

Old Barn - Iowa Barn - Northboro,Iowa Barn - Barn on country road - Rural Scene

This last barn comes from near Northboro, Iowa. You can also see that this barn has seen better days as it is missing some of the shingles on the roof. You can also see the roof lines at the end of the barn, with the characteristic overhang at the peak.

Barns make me think of many things. Things like Barn Owls and Charlotte’s Web and also my days working as a cowboy and growing up in a farming community.

One of the things that I like about where I live now is that I can be out of the city and in the middle of farm country in a matter of minutes.

What is your favorite barn memory? Oops, I just dug up another favorite memory from the Ellis farm πŸ™‚

  1. Wish I had a photograph of the barn up on the hill where I grew up. It’s where the milk cow lived and where my youngest brother hide to smoke a cigarette, almost burning it down.

We loved playing hide-and-go-seek in our hay loft, especially on rainy days. Got us out of the house πŸ™‚

Love barns! To me they are a symbol of America and the hard working farmer. Also the many fun times spent with family at my great aunts farm.
