March Forth and Conquer

Since I am traveling in Mexico and it is March fourth, I am thinking about how the Spaniards Marched Forth and Conquered Mexico City in the early 1500’s.

Our office in Mexico is in the picturesque area of the city known as Coyoacan.

The grounds inside the compound walls are very picturesque.

Coyoacan, is one of the oldest areas of the city and was the first capital of New Spain from 1521-1523. The name Coyoacan means the place of the Coyotes. I have not yet hear any coyotes howling though :-).

I remember reading a lot about Coyoacan in The Discovery and Conquest of Mexico by Bernal Diaz de Castillo, which I read last year. It was a very interesting book to read.

For lunch today we walked down the street to La Bella Lulu, a restaurant specializing in Oaxaca regional cuisine.

For lunch I had a nice plate of Chicken Mole Enchiladas. It had a wonderful mole sauce, rich and decadent. It may not be the prettiest plate, but it was so good.

On the way back to the office I was able to get a nice picture down one of the side streets into the quiet neighborhood.

We had a good day of class and then additional work in the workshop. We finally left as it was getting dark and headed off to dinner.

The original plan was for pizza, so we headed off to Italianni’s.

Another beautiful setting for dinner. I was all set for a small pepperoni pizza and then I saw a picture of their lasagna in the menu. It looked so good.

When the lasagna arrived it was twice as large as what it was in the picture. It was really delicious, but I did not even come close to finishing it.

It was finally back to the hotel for a nap before writing this entry. Now for a good night of sleep, hopefully more than last night.
