I have seen President Lincoln’s name many times during the past few weeks because of the new movie that is playing in the theaters. While looking through some of my Grandma’s scrapbooks I also found some nice clippings of President Lincoln.
The first is from a 1957 scrapbook and is of a photograph of President Lincoln without a beard.
It may be difficult to read the text below this picture, so I will retype it here:
The picture above is considered the finest photographic portrait of Abraham Lincoln in existence. The original photograph was made in 1860 by Alexander Hesler, of Chicago. The portrait, made from a duplicate negative is taken from a brochure prepared by Rand McNally & Co., publishers and map makers. Unlike practically all other Lincoln portraits, the face is absolutely unretouched. The picture is part of Rand McNally’s centennial observance this year. In the brochure, Paul M. Angle, director of the Chicago Historical Society and a n eminent Lincoln scholar, says: “Most photographs of Lincoln have been copied and recopied so often that the true appearance of the man has been lost beyond recovery. This picture . . . shows him as he was.”
Next I have three clippings from a 1960 scrapbook.
This first clipping is an advertisement for “Meet Mr. Lincoln,” a 30-minute documentary in the National Broadcasting Co.’s “Project 20” that had originally aired the year before.
I like the next clipping for two reasons. First, I like the simplicity of the drawing. Second, I like this quote from Lincoln’s address.
Let us have faith that right makes might, and in that faith let us to the end dare to do our duty as we understand it.

This last clipping brings back memories.
I think that most of us can remember learning about President Lincoln when were in primary school. What a great man and a great leader. As the caption of this clipping says.

Braman's Wanderings 
We saw the movie a couple of weeks ago. Daniel Day Lewis is just amazing and he should win an Oscar. We see a ton of movies, I have to say his performance is flawless. I’d swear he WAS Lincoln. I like that quote too, he was wise in a street smart kind of way.
I am still debating on whether to go see it in the theaters or wait to see it on TV or on a plane someday :-).
You might be smart to wait, it probably won’t even be long. Going to the Cinema is a favourite thing of ours. We live downtown and can walk, we love that.
Has always been my favorite president. His integrity is a rarity these days. Priceless pictures. Thanks for sharing!!
One of my favorite presidents as well. He served in a very difficult time for our country and served it well.
I especially liked the cartoon of the classroom with the Lincoln picture looking down on the students. I think that we also had a Washington picture at my school. 🙂
I am pretty sure we had both of them as well when I was in Grade School.
