Yesterday I posted a nice reflection picture from the Dublin Heritage Center.
Today I have been thinking of some of the flower pictures that I have taken there. Depending on the time of the year, there are some fantastic flowers around the buildings, or scattered throughout the Dublin Pioneer Cemetery.
The first is a beautiful Calla Lily.
Zantedeschia aethiopica is native to southern Africa, but grows well in this area of California. I found out that the name used in South Africa, Varkoor, is an Afrikaans name meaning pig’s ear.
I love the contrast between the white and the yellow of the center and the green of the background. The white is so beautiful.
The Calla Lilies grow in the same place year after year, and I am always trying to get a better shot of them :-).
The second picture is a group of pink lilies.
I am not 100% sure, but I think that these are Lycoris squamigera or more commonly know as resurrection lilies. They bloom about this time of year, and you can see them in many places around the Bay Area.
To me, I don’t need to know their exact name, I just think that they are very pretty. The pink and yellow colors in the blooms are just beautiful. I am hoping that some of them will be blooming tomorrow, as I will be at the Dublin Heritage Center.

The pictures are wonderful. I agree-even if I don’t know the name of a flower, I can appreciate its beauty.
I really love that someone planted those for their loved one there. Those are really really tall! I bet they smelt heavenly. My sisters a florist, I’ll tell her about the African name for Calla Lilly, Pigs Ear.
Love calla lilies. Ours (here in Sydney, Australia) are beautiful this year and I’ve just cut some to put in vases. I’ve also paid tribute to them on my blog recently too.

The calla lily plays a role in the Christian Easter service as a symbol of Jesus’ resurrection. Darlene and I have been enjoying the dramatic dark purple ones in the restaurant of the Rome Hilton.
