Old Road on Oak Island

Season 9 of The Curse of Oak Island is well underway. The episode tonight was interesting as they shared the dating of some items that have been found.Curse of Oak Island, History Channel, Did they find anything?A root found under the old road was found to date from around the 1500’s as well as some of the timbers found in the drilling project at the Money Pit.

oak Island, Money Pit, Mahone BayThey also showed a beam that was used as an edge for placement of the road which may also give a date as to when the road was built.

This may take some time though as they have stopped archaeological work on the island since they found First Nations pottery and have been asked to stop digging in certain areas.

Oak Island, Money Pit, National Geographic, Curse of Oak IslandThe drilling survey in the Money Pit area has continued and they are finding interesting evidence about the old tunnels. Bits and pieces of old timber are showing up and they are busy piecing together the location of tunnels. They may also have found signs of a side chamber.

They are also getting closer to making a decision as to where to place the first large can that will allow them to bring up large amounts of material from a promising location.

Curse of Oak Island, Mahone Bay, Nova ScotiaSome metal detecting was done in the area where they believe the hatch on the old French map is located. The did find an old buckle and perhaps more significantly an old button. The button showed trace amounts of gold and silver which may indicate that it was a gilded button.

oak island, curse of oak lsland, satellite, money pitThe preview for the next episode shows more excitement of finds in the drilling program and there will also be a large piece of equipment arriving that will allow them to dig deep in the swamp. It will be interesting to see if they find more evidence of a ship in the swamp.

58th Anniversary

Tomorrow, December 7th, is the 58th wedding anniversary for my parents.

It is easy for me to remember when their anniversary is as it is the day after my work anniversary. I started to work for my current company just before their 30th anniversary. Actually it is the opposite. I remember my work anniversary because of theirs.

Of course, each year I am also reminded by news items about upcoming celebrations for the anniversary of Pearl Harbor. However, when I am traveling this is not always the case.

I remember one time when teaching a course in Tokyo that there was no reminder in the news.

Vernall Falls, Yosemite, Ansel Adams, Eva Fry, PaintingI also have one of the gifts that they were given for their wedding hanging in my dining room.

This beautiful waterfall was painted by Eva Fry who was a member of the Frytown congregation.

The painting is based on an Ansel Adams picture of Vernal Falls in Yosemite National Park.

Have a wonderful anniversary Mom and Dad!!
