Season 9 of The Curse of Oak Island is well underway. The episode tonight was interesting as they shared the dating of some items that have been found.A root found under the old road was found to date from around the 1500’s as well as some of the timbers found in the drilling project at the Money Pit.
They also showed a beam that was used as an edge for placement of the road which may also give a date as to when the road was built.
This may take some time though as they have stopped archaeological work on the island since they found First Nations pottery and have been asked to stop digging in certain areas.
The drilling survey in the Money Pit area has continued and they are finding interesting evidence about the old tunnels. Bits and pieces of old timber are showing up and they are busy piecing together the location of tunnels. They may also have found signs of a side chamber.
They are also getting closer to making a decision as to where to place the first large can that will allow them to bring up large amounts of material from a promising location.
Some metal detecting was done in the area where they believe the hatch on the old French map is located. The did find an old buckle and perhaps more significantly an old button. The button showed trace amounts of gold and silver which may indicate that it was a gilded button.
The preview for the next episode shows more excitement of finds in the drilling program and there will also be a large piece of equipment arriving that will allow them to dig deep in the swamp. It will be interesting to see if they find more evidence of a ship in the swamp.
