Chinese Fish

With the Olympics going on in Beijing I have been thinking about fish dishes in China.

beijing,, Fish, dried fish, lunch, chinese foodI will start with a lunch dish that I had near the Forbidden Castle in Beijing back in 2002. I really enjoyed eating this fried fish. I remember them being delicious.

Fish in China, Cuisine, Suzhou, Chinese FoodI really enjoyed both the presentation and taste of this fish dish we had in Suzhou. This brings back memories of a late lunch in a beautiful setting.

Feast for the eyes, Chinese Food, Shanghai, PudongHere are some wonderful fish heads we had in Shanghai. They were quite spicy.

Fish Slice, Grouper, Fish Hot Pot, ShanghaiDuring one of my visits to teach a course in Shanghai, we had some sliced fish hot pot. The grouper was thinly sliced and quickly cooked in the hot broth. A wonderful experience.

Whole cooked fish - Shanghai, China - Chinese Food - Chinese Cuisine - Fish PresentationHere is another great presentation of a whole fish. I really like a whole fish as then it includes the head of the fish. The fish cheeks are the tastiest meat of a fish. However, you have to be very careful of the bones in the rest of the fish.

I have had great food memories during the last three Olympics.

Hobby Lobby Open Close to Home

About a year ago I wrote a post about rumors  that a Hobby Lobby was coming to town.

hobby Lobby, Norcal, Tracy, New store, Hobbies, memoriesThere were already Hobby Lobby stores in Northern California, but none were nearby. There is one by my office, but I have only been to it a few times. When work is over I want to head home. Plus, with the pandemic I  have been to the office a lot less often.

I looked forward to having a much larger hobby store close by that has a much better selection.

The announcement also brought back memories of many visits to the Gladstone Hobby Lobby when I lived back in Missouri. I bought quite a few craft supplies there that I still have 🙂 However, even if I lived close, I can no longer go back to the Gladstone store as the location has closed.

With a local Hobby Lobby I could have searched for the yarn that my sister could not find back in Iowa.

hobby lobby, hobbies, mall memoriesA couple weeks ago I finally visited the new Hobby Lobby. It has been open since October, but I had not done any shopping near it so did not make a special visit. I finally needed to visit store next to it so decided to check it out.

Just walking through the store brought back many memories. I had memories of stores back in Missouri as well of crafts and hobbies from years past. I have been thinking renewing some of my hobbies, or perhaps starting some new ones.
