Walks Behind the Virtual Hike

I am sure that many of you have seen my Virtual Hike posts. My Virtual Hike started in July of 2017. I had the idea to use how far I walked each day and go on a virtual hike to Yosemite. I then just kept going from there. I have virtually walked all the way to the East Coast and up to Prince Edward Island and am now on my way back.

virtual walk, actual walk, sidewalks, walking, treesIt is pretty simple, I figure out the next destination and how far it is and then start walking. It has been good motivation to walk more as I accumulate the miles for the next stop.

virtual walk, actual walk, sidewalks, walking, treesI usually try and make the next stop something significant. Maybe it is where something historic happened, a place that brings back memories or someplace where my ancestors lived.

virtual walk, actual walk, sidewalks, walking, treesI also have some fun researching each new destination.

virtual walk, actual walk, sidewalks, walking, treesI use Google Maps for the maps and usually Google Street View for the scenery as I hike through an area. Of course, sometimes I have other pictures to add for certain destinations.

This post has images of where most of the miles that feed the virtual hike took place. I don’t always have such a nice view as many of my miles are walked after dark.

I hope you enjoy my Virtual Hike posts.

The Last Time Change?

Tomorrow most of us here in the United States will set our clocks backward one hour. Actually, most of us will probably set them backward tonight in readiness for tomorrow. I have only a few clocks that I have to change as most of mine change automatically.

But, will this be the last time change? There is a growing movement to either repeal Daylight Saving Time, or to make it permanent. No more time changes.

Shangai Customs House - Bund - Daylight Saving Time - Shanghai, ChinaI will share pictures ofย  a few clocks to illustrate this post. Here is the clock tower of the Shanghai Custom House.

But is Daylight Savings Time or Daylight Saving Time that we are changing back from? Do you know which one is the official designation? I have four calendars here at home and two of them have savings and two have saving.

All of the legislation dealing with Time Zones uses the term Daylight Saving Time, so that should give you your answer ๐Ÿ™‚

Big Ben - Elizabeth Tower - Clock Tower - Most Photographed Clock - London, England - Iconic ClockDaylight Saving Time was first used in 1916 by Germany during World War I. The practice soon spread to Britain and other European countries. In 1918 the Standard Time Act established standard Time Zones and also Daylight Saving Time in the United States.

The Daylight Saving Time provision was repealed after the war, but was again instituted during World War II. After the war the provision was again dropped. However, some states continued to practice Daylight Saving Time in the summer and the decision of when to change time was not always the same.

Eastgate Clock - Chester, England - 2nd most photographed Clock - Clock Tower on BridgeOf course, you probably recognize the clock tower in the second picture. Click on Photogenic Clocks to find out more about this clock in the third picture that is also in England.

The Uniform Time Act of 1966 standardized the practice of Daylight Saving Time in the United States.

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 included the latest change to Daylight Saving Time. Starting in 2007 the time change dates were changed so that we have DST for more of the year.

Will we finally see the end of time changes?

Westin Prince Toronto Canada - Flower Clock - Fall Colors - Floral ClockFor my last clock here is the flower clock that is in front of the Westin Prince Hotel in Toronto.

Make sure that you don’t forget about the time change!

I am sure that all of us could use an extra hour of sleep.
