A Walk around the Park III

This past six months I have been walking around the park a lot. Many of the rounds come at night, like today, but also many of them are in the daytime. I like to take pictures when I walk to document some of the nice views that I have. Also depending on the time of the day I sometimes get some unique views.

Tonight I walked while it was drizzling, so no pictures. However, I got my 5k in for the day and it is now time to warm up before getting some sleep.

Virtual Hike to West Point, NY

The next destination on my Virtual Hike was West Point, New York.

West Point, Virtual Hike, Adolphus Van Duzor, Fort PutThe previous destination on my virtual hike was Cornwall, New York.

West Point, Virtual Hike, Adolphus Van Duzor, Fort PutThe virtual hike from Cornwall was mostly through Storm King State Park on a road that overlooked the Hudson River.

West Point, Virtual Hike, Adolphus Van Duzor, Fort PutIt would have been a beautiful hike in person, but one where you would definitely have to watch out for traffic with narrow shoulders along the way.

West Point, Virtual Hike, Adolphus Van Duzor, Fort PutThe route dropped down into a valley and then went through the US Military Academy at West Point.

West Point, Virtual Hike, Adolphus Van Duzor, Fort PutThe virtual hike finally made it to Fort Putnam which has a family connection. Fort Putnam was built during the Revolutionary War to support Fort Clinton.

My 4th Great Grandfather Adolphus Van Duzer helped build Fort Putnam and other fortifications in the West Point area.

You can read more about his service in Helping Build West Point.

The next two destinations on my Virtual Hike also have a family connection to the Van Duzer family.

I have been setting shorter distances between destinations for better motivation for my daily walking and so far it has been working. I have been walking more each day and have made good progress on my Virtual Hike. I am still a few stops behind on my posts.

I am almost finished heading south down through, or near, the Hudson River Valley. I have one more interesting stop planned along the way, before venturing into the big city to exactly where one of my ancestors lived.
