Virtual Hike Images

I am just back from another long walk and don’t have much time to get a post written.

I have some ideas for some posts but they all need a little bit more work and are not quick writes.

So, here are some images from the latest segment of my Virtual Hike. This segment is from Halls Crossing, Utah to the Four Corners Monument.

Halls Crossing, Virtual Hike, Utah, scenic viewsThe images are all from Google Maps through Street View or Photo Sphere as are most of the images I use in my Virtual Hike posts.

This is the view from the beginning of this segment at Halls Crossing. I had just crossed over the ferry from Bullfrog. See: Virtual Hike to Bullfrog

Big Pour Off Spring, Virtual Hike, Google MapsThis image and the next one are just a bit off of the highway that I have been following, but there is no Street View on the highway so I have to rely on Photo Sphere images. This is a place called Big Pour Off Spring and is very beautiful. Go to Google Maps and find this as you can pan through a 360 view from the spot.

Google Maps, Photo Sphere, Virtual HikeThe image above is one of the ones to the left of the Google Map person icon and the one below is just to the right.

Grand Gulch Primitive Area, Utah, Virtual Hike, Google Photo SphereThis image was taken by the same person as the previous one and is from the Grand Gulch Primitive Area. Here are some petroglyphs on the wall of one of the canyons. It would be really cool to see some of these in person instead of just virtually πŸ™‚

Cattle Guard, Utah Highway, Virtual HikeThis image brings back a lot of memories. I have driven across many cattle guards in my life. Especially while growing up in Kansas. You would have to be very careful driving in this area as you are entering open range country. No fences along the highway to keep cattle off of the road.

The coloring of the land here also reminds me of Red Dirt Country in Kansas.

Virtual Hike, Where I am, Utah, Scenic HighwayAfter my walk tonight this is where I am on my virtual hike. I am currently on Utah 95 heading east toward 235 where I will turn south toward Arizona.

I still have a long way to go to the Four Corners Monument, but will hopefully get a lot of walking in this week and make some progress toward the goal.

Thoughts on a Long Walk

This evening I took a long walk.

As I started my walk I pulled up my Bible app and I was at Mark chapter 4. I needed to listen to Luke chapters 1-2 to help prepare for my sermon tomorrow. I couldn’t just skip ahead, I had to listen through Mark to get there. So, I had a much needed long walk of about 7-8 miles.

Church of the Nativity - Bethlehem - Birthplace of Jesus - Christmas EveWhile listening I thought of a trip that I took to Israel where I visited Bethlehem. There are a few moreΒ  pictures of Bethlehem in my post O Little Town.

Manger at Megiddo, King Ahab, StablesI also thought about a post I wrote titled Away in a Manger. Do you know what a manger would have looked like at the time of Christ?

Shepherd, Turkey, Hattusha, Hittite CapitalI also thought about shepherds watching their flocks in the fields.

Peace on Earth - 1957 - Scrapbook - A Saviour has been born to you - Good Will to MenI also thought about Peace on Earth which is the title of my sermon tomorrow. The lesson will actually cover most of the events from Luke 1-2 and also the visit of the wise men from Matthew 2.

Three Wise Men - The Three Magi - Melchior, Gaspar and Balthazar - Wise Men - OrientHere is an interesting question for you that I looked at in a previous post. Does the bible say that there were Three Wise Men?

Holy Monastery of Saint John the Baptist of Jerusalem, Little visited sites in JerusalemMy presentation tomorrow will also include some of my memories of A Thursday Afternoon in Jerusalem.

Now back to work on my sermon.
