The next destination on my Virtual Hike was Northkill Creek, Pennsylvania.
The previous destination on my virtual hike was Quakertown, Pennsylvania.
The virtual hike from Quakertown went along country roads as it headed west.
There were a lot of scenic views as well as many barns along the way.
The virtual hike finally made it to the Northkill Creek area which was the site of the first Amish settlement in Pennsylvania.
The settlement was disbanded following an Indian attack in 1757 in which members of my Hochstetler family were killed or taken captive. I was able to find the historical marker on Google Maps Street View.
The marker is just across the street from an attraction called Roadside America near Shartlesville, Pennsylvania. However, the miniature village and railroad layout is now permanently closed
I will not go into the details of the Indian attack in this post, but you can learn more about it by visiting some previous posts I have written.
Katey Sagal – Amish Ancestry Katey Sagal is also a descendant of the Hochstetler family
The next destination on my Virtual Hike is a small town on the Susquehanna River with an interesting connection to the Restoration Movement
I have been setting shorter distances between destinations for better motivation for my daily walking and so far it has been working. I have been walking more each day and have made good progress on my Virtual Hike. I am still a few stops behind on my posts.
I am now heading west and have some interesting stops planned that are family or history related.
Steven
