Season 10 of The Curse of Oak Island continues to show new discoveries and theories.
This week on Oak Island they started by drilling probe holes through the side of the Garden Shaft at about a depth of 55 feet. They also took a core sample from the big tree that they discovered by the old wall that they were investigating. The age of the tree may help them find out how old the wall is.
The also returned to some metal detecting on Lot 4. A leather heel of a shoe was found that contains nails. They also found an old axe with speculation that it may be from the Vikings.
Of course, one thing to remember is that the dig season is already over. They have taken the time to determine how to present things each week to build suspense and keep viewers tuned in.
As the probes in the Garden Shaft were made they collected samples to be tested in the lab. The last probe in the Garden Shaft ran into something which caused some excitement. However it seems it was just a large rock obstructing the drill.
Near the old stone well they continued taking a look at the stone wall along the lot line.
It is interesting to see them use some archeological methods and setting up some test pits to methodically removing layers of soil and other material.
They talked about the construction of the wall which is similar to Scottish methods. The wall was purposely built by someone who was experienced with building walls. It may also have been used to hide something related to the deposition.
They started looking at a cross section of the wall to get better information. It reminds me of working on a dig in Israel where we removed walls to see what was beneath. In the wall they found worked stone that was similar to the Kingdom Stone in Nolan’s Cross. They knew from earlier investigations that it had been reduced in size so perhaps these are some of the removed pieces.
They also started a new bore hole in the Baby Blob to further track a possible tunnel. There was again a possible void at about 90 feet. However, they didn’t find any wood to indicate a tunnel so took it down to 120 feet which went through very dense material.
Emma showed up at the bore hole investigation table with some results from the probes in the Garden Shaft. She announced that they found traces of Gold in the original lining of the shaft. The amount is only about .1 percent, but is significant since it should not be there. They struck gold, but only trace amounts.
In the preview of the next episode they showed them installing the next level down in the Garden Shaft. They also showed some investigation in a square by the old wall. A date for the old axe head was given as being from the late 1600’s and they also showed them digging up what was termed the hidden well. It looks like a different well than the old well they have been investigating. Also, Emma mentioned higher Gold counts but no mention of where from.
The title of the next episode is ‘A Well of Secrets’ so it looks like it will be interesting next week.
Have they found some secret in the hidden well that helps solve the mystery?
