Did you know that today was National Cuban Sandwich Day?

Today I was to attend a team celebration for the release of a new software version and they had sent out a menu ahead of time so we could place our order so the food would be ready when we arrived at the restaurant. I told my students that I was ordering a Cuban sandwich and one of the students had heard on the radio that today was the National Cuban Sandwich Day. So, just by chance I celebrated the day properly.

The Cuban Sandwich or Cubano has layers of ham, pork, and Swiss cheese along with mustard and pickles.

The sandwich looked delicious along with the fries that it came with.

I have had Cuban sandwiches before during trips to Miami, but they were slightly different than this one. I think that this restaurant version has been made to look a bit nicer as the ones I have had in the past were more of a simple pressed sandwich. However the same flavors were there. I think also the ingredients were a bit more gourmet.

The sandwich was really good. I enjoyed the food at the lunch, and also spending time with colleagues away from the office.

This also brought back some memories of my last trip to Miami and I may need to see if I took a picture of a Cubano there.
