Tonight I have been reading Horse by Geraldine Brooks so have been thinking about some of the pictures of horses that I have shared through the years.
The book is about the race horse Lexington, but is set in both the past and the present. I have really enjoyed the books I have read by Brooks. She has written some very good Historical Fiction books on different subjects.
I like reading books about horses as it reminds me that it has not been too long ago when horses were very important to the lives of our ancestors, especially if you were a farmer.
Above is a picture of my grandfather and his horse.
If you have been following my blog you know that I have Amish ancestry, and still today horses are very important in their culture.
One of my favorite pictures of horses I have taken was at an estancia in Argentina. My sister and I visited the estancia on our way to the airport in Buenos Aires after our cruise to Antarctica.
This horse, along with the one in the first picture, were close to the cave hotel I stayed in when I visited the Cappadocian region of Turkey.
I have also been thinking about some of the books I have read about horses in the past. I may have to read some of them again.
