Season 9 of The Curse of Oak Island is drawing to a close. The weather is rapidly deteriorating and they are excavating the last large can of the season.
Meanwhile part of the team is off on an excursion to Portugal. They visited a convent that has an aqueduct that is of similar construction to the finger drains on Oak Island. Is it a common construction technique, or are the drains on Oak Island modeled after these specific structures?
They also visited a museum in Lisbon where they were shown a ship mounted cannon that has the same bore as the stone shot that they found in the money pit. However, the cannon that they were shown was designed for metal shot. Would it have also use stone shot?
This week they are unearthing part of an extension of the old stone road on Oak Island. It also maybe similar to the stone road in Portugal they visited in the previous episode. However, I don’t think that the road is built to the same standards, but was meant for a temporary road and not one that would have been used for centuries.
ln Portugal they looked at an Initiation Well that is in some ways similar to the money pit. It is very deep with a similar diameter. However, this well has a stone stairway the spirals down through different levels to the bottom. The well also cased in stone. Was the money pit intended to be similar, or it simply a coincidence?
They really did not show much being brought up from the large can, just some earth as they start going down. They should reach the interesting depths next week.
The preview for the next episode showed that it will be the season finale.
They also showed footage of items being brought up from the last large can, including a wooden beam.
They also talked again about similarities between what was found in Portugal and Oak Island. Is there really a connection between Portugal and Oak Island? I really don’t see a strong connection, but there are least some similarities.
A screen shot of an imaging technique that can scan large underground areas of the island was shown. I looked interesting, will they show images next week that will help crack the mystery wide open?
One thing that I have to remind myself is that they are constructing a story that leads to what they have already found. What is being shown now was found late last year. We also do not know what all is found, only those items that fit their narrative.
How will the season end? It does not seem that this will be a series finale. I expect there to be a season ten, which is probably already in progress.
