As I left my office this afternoon I walked to my car through light rain.
I knew that I would have a difficult commute home as it had been raining throughout the afternoon.
As I headed out to the highway I noticed that the raindrops on my windshield looked a little different. It brought back memories of rain turning to snow.
The traffic was heavy as I headed toward the Altamont. As I approched the base of the Altamont the rain turned into sleet.
As I started up the Altamont I saw traces of snow along the side of the road.
As I continued on there was more snow.
At the top of the Altamont Pass you could see snow up on the hills.
Here you can see that there was a bit more snow fall up at the top. It had stopped snowing, but earlier when it was falling it had really slowed traffic down.
As I started to descend the Altamont, this was one of the last places where there was snow along the road.
Further along there was a place where I could look back at the Livermore Hills and the peaks were all covered with snow.
This is a rare event to have snow this low on the Altamont Pass. I have only seen it a couple times before.
I am sure that I will have a scenic drive tomorrow with the snow covered hills.
