Back to Oak Island

Season 9 of The Curse of Oak Island has begun. Tonight there was a Drilling Down episode followed by the two hour long premier episode.Curse of Oak Island, History Channel, Did they find anything? It looks like there will be a lot of interesting shows this year as they start to show the finds.

In the drilling down episode they showed the equipment that will be used for drilling in the Money Pit area.

There are also several other projects that they showed including a look through old money pit spoils and digging in the swamp area (they hinted again at looking for a ship).

oak Island, Money Pit, Mahone BayThe metal detecting team mentioned that they have found a lot of top pocket finds at the other end of the island and also talked about a potential find off the shore of the Boulder-less Beach. Could this be why there are no boulders in this stretch of the shore?

Oak Island, Money Pit, National Geographic, Curse of Oak IslandThey also talked about some new imaging technology which may be able to show shafts, tunnels and other underground objects. It will be interesting to see the results in the episodes as the season begins.

Now, on to the first episode as we start to see some of what they have found.

This year there are more regulatory approvals needed for excavations and in many parts of the island it will be more like an archaeological dig than a treasure hunt. As more is found out about the island more attention is being paid to documenting the history and not losing anything of cultural importance.

Curse of Oak Island, Mahone Bay, Nova ScotiaIt looks like a lot will be focused this year on the money pit and swamp regions.

Some interesting historical images were looked at to see if the roads in the swamp could be seen and they have been digging further along the road to see what more they can find. Will they find out more about the possible clock or watch part and the pottery with blue lines that they found in future episodes?

oak island, curse of oak lsland, satellite, money pitThis image from Google Maps was taken in 2021, probably in the first part of the year as no equipment is shown. It is interesting to see the cleared areas on the map before they get started on the dig this year.

Finally more water testing in the Money Pit area showed evidence of gold, which added even more excitement to the episode.

I was hoping that they would give an update on the lead seal that was found near the end of last season, but it was not mentioned at all. See: Oak Island Lead Seal Thoughts

No preview for the next episode, but they did show one for the upcoming season after the episode tonight. Definitely some interesting things to come.
