I have gone on a couple tours to Israel and to Turkey, and during each tour I have met people that have become life long friends.
My first tour was to Israel in 2012 and was the inspiration for Braman’s Wanderings. The tour leader, Ferrell Jenkins, had a blog, and I decided to start a blog to share my thoughts from the tour. I started it a couple months before the tour.
Another member of the Turkey tour was with me on a dig in Israel in 2019. I also visited several members of the tour who were from Fort Worth when I conducted a training course in Dallas some years later.
I have kept in touch with many of the Turkey tour members since that time.
In June 2017 I went on another tour of Israel along with members of my home congregation. Of course I see them quite often now that the pandemic is winding down, but I also keep in touch with some of the other tour members. Also, I have been on several digs in Israel with Luke Chandler.
I am thinking of tour friends tonight as Ferrell Jenkins posted tonight that his wife Elizabeth has passed away. I have some good memories of Elizabeth from our trip to Turkey. Here I am in Istanbul with Ferrell and Elizabeth near the end of our trip to Turkey.
Lots of memories tonight as I think about the trips I have been on and more importantly the people I have met on the trips.
