Today the first steel went up at the construction site near our office in Dublin.
When I woke up this morning I checked the construction camera as I knew that today would be the day.
They got an early start and the first verticals were already in position when I looked.
As I drove by the site a few hours later on my way to work the first cross beam had just been put in place.
In the afternoon I took a walk to the site and took some more pictures. You can see that they have made a good start on the steel erection, but they have a long way to go.
The building will be three floors, and you can see here that the verticals go all the way up to where the roof will be. My guess is that tomorrow they will be placing the third floor cross beams in this section.
I stood and watched them place a couple beams. It is an interesting process. I am really glad that this is not the type of work I do as I am a bit afraid of heights. However, they have good safety equipment and do this everyday and you can really tell that by watching them.
The Big Red Crane is going to be very busy in the coming weeks.
