Whenever I travel to Jena, Germany I will usually take a few pictures of the city church.
I will often get night pictures of the building while walking after dinner.
The pictures that I took during this trip were taken while the building was not lit up from the inside. See: Statdkirche St. Michael at Night
The church building is a bit more colorful in the daylight. It has been interesting to see the look of the building change over the years as it underwent a large restoration project. Someday I need to locate some of the pictures that I took almost 20 years ago and post them along with current ones.
With the tall windows the apse of the church looks very interesting. It also looks really cool when lit up from inside at night.
The tower of the church can be seen from many places in the city as it is pretty tall. When I first visited Jena the tower was not quite as tall. The tower was damaged in WWII and the cupola was not rebuilt. The cupola replacement was one of the first steps in the restoration project.
Now I am curious as to whether I have a picture of the tower from one of my first trips. I will have to do some hunting for the pictures.
