Today is National Watermelon Day and of course I am having some memories of great watermelon that I have eaten through the years.

Some of the most satisfying watermelon that I have eaten has been at Lachish during our excavations there. The watermelon break was one of my favorite times of the day.

It was always nice to have a few nice slices of watermelon after working in the hot sun.

This was always a welcome sight when break time came.

The most artistic watermelon I have had has been in Shanghai, China. Of course, you don’t see something this elaborate all the time, but this was in a very nice restaurant.

Watermelon is a very common end of dinner treat in China and of course one that I enjoy.
